Winter can be a bare time in the garden; Witch Hazel flowers and many varieties are also scented. The one I am particularly eyeing up for the front garden is Hamamelis x Intermedia ‘Ruby Glow’.

One of the key themes for what I want to grow is “edible AND attractive”. Chenopodium giganteum fits the bill; I’ve not tried it before but it looks worth a shot.

Cerinthe major ‘Purpurascens’ is a new discovery for me. We found it in the walled garden at RHS Wisley on our recent visit there. Alien and eye-catching!
